Early voting the for 2022 Midterm Election ends today, Friday, November 4 – traditionally the highest day for early voter turnout. As of November 3, according to preliminary totals from the Secretary of State’s website, 26.93% of Texas voters have turned out to the polls. This is a decrease from 2018 and 2020 turnout where, respectively, 35.39% and 53.45% had voted during the same period.
As districts were redrawn last session, this year’s ballot includes 31 Texas Senate Seats, 150 Texas House Seats, 38 U.S. House Seats, and 15 State Board of Education seats. For more details on early voting, visit the Texas Secretary of State’s Early Voting page.
Statewide
The 2022 ballot features 13 races for statewide positions: Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, Comptroller, Land Commissioner, Agriculture Commissioner, Railroad Commissioner and 6 spots for Texas Supreme Court and Texas Court of Criminal Appeals.
Texas Senate
All 31 seats in the Texas Senate are on this year’s ballot. Senate membership will include at least 6 freshmen. Eight sitting incumbents are running unopposed and 15 are facing major party challengers.
The current makeup of the Senate is 18 Republicans and 13 Democrats.
Texas House
All 150 seats in the Texas House are on this year’s ballot. House membership will include at least 25 freshmen and could include more based on election results. Of the incumbents running, 61 are facing major party challengers and 57 are running unopposed.
The current makeup of the House is 83 Republicans and 67 Democrats.
SBOE
All 15 Texas State Board of Education seats are on this year’s ballot, with 6 being open seats. Of the remaining seats, 6 Republicans and 3 Democrats are seeking re-election to the board.
U.S. Senate & House
After the latest census, Texas has 38 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives and all are on this year’s ballot. 30 incumbents are running, with 6 running unopposed, and the remaining 8 seats are open.
