Gov. Perry Appoints Three to Statewide Health Coordinating Council
Gov. Rick Perry has appointed three members to the Statewide Health Coordinating Council for terms to expire Aug. 1, 2017. The council evaluates long-term local, regional and statewide health needs to develop workforce goals for health professionals. More details on the council: http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/chs/shcc/
Lourdes M. Cuellar of Houston is being reappointed to the Council. Cuellar is administrative director of pharmacy and clinical support services at The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR) Memorial Hermann.
Steven Nguyen of Irving is also being reappointed. Nguyen an optometrist at Southwest Dallas Eye Care.
Elizabeth "Betty" Protas of League City is vice president and dean of the School of Health Professions, and a George T. Bryan Distinguished Professor at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) at Galveston.
The Texas Statewide Health Coordinating Council (SHCC) is a 17-member council, with 13 members appointed by the governor and four ex-officio members representing specified state agencies. 12 members appointed by the Governor are listed below. The Governor is currently working on the 13th appointment to replace Mr. James Endicott, whose term expired August 1, 2011.
