The House Committee on Transportation met with the Chairman of the newly formed Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), Victor Vandergriff, on November 16, 2009. Vandergirff noted the Department has posted the qualifications for the Executive Director position and hopes to hold interviews starting in December. The DMV also hopes to complete the recruitment of major parts of its central administration staff by January 2010. Vandergriff spoke to cost saying that $3.4 million more will be spent on the DMV than if it stayed under TxDOT (Texas Department of Transportation). This difference is primarily due to the need for new computer licenses and insurance. The Committee expressed some concern on the costs and Vandergriff noted that he shared the Committee’s concerns on the cost. The committee requested a report once final negations on licenses and insurance were completed.
