The 2018 ballot features races for most statewide offices in Texas, 7 State Board of Education seats, 16 Texas Senate seats, all 150 Texas House seats and all 36 U.S. House seats.

The following members have announced their plans regarding re-election and retirement – leaving open seats for the 2018 ballot. 

  • Sen. Van Taylor (R-Plano) intends to challenge for U.S. Congressional District 3, soon to be vacated by U.S. Rep. Sam Johnson (R-Richardson)
  • Rep. Mark Keough (R-The Woodlands) is not seeking re-election to the Texas House and intends to run for Montgomery County Judge
  • Rep. Larry Gonzales (R-Round Rock) is not seeking re-election to the Texas House
  • Rep. Jodie Laubenberg (R-Parker) is not seeking re-election to the Texas House
  • Rep. Larry Phillips (R-Sherman) is not seeking re-election to the Texas House
  • Rep. Cindy Burkett (R-Sunnyvale) intends to challenge for Texas Senate District 2, currently occupied by Sen. Bob Hall (R-Canton)
  • Rep. Pat Fallon (R-Frisco) intends to challenge for Texas Senate District 30, currently occupied by Sen. Craig Estes (R-Wichita Falls)
  • State Board of Education (SBOE) member David Bradley (R- Beaumont) is not seeking re-election to the SBOE
