House

After convening and standing at ease due to lack of quorum, a motion was made to issue a call of the House and was adopted with 80 ayes and 8 nays. Speaker Phelan then announced the House would stand at ease until 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 10th.

Senate

The Senate gaveled in at 11 a.m. today and passed seven Senate Bills and Joint Resolutions.

SB 6 (Huffman) relating to rules for setting the amount of bail, to the release of certain defendants on a monetary bond or personal bond, to related duties of certain officers taking bail bonds and of a magistrate was passed out of the Senate (27-2)

SJR 3 (Huffman) proposing a constitutional amendment requiring a judge or magistrate to impose the least restrictive conditions of bail that may be necessary and authorizing the denial of bail under some circumstances was passed out of the Senate (27-2).

SB 7 (Huffman) relating to a one-time supplemental payment of benefits under the Teacher Retirement System of Texas was passed out of the Senate (29-0).

SB 8 (Bettencourt) relating to the authority of a person who acquires a residence homestead to receive an ad valorem tax exemption for the homestead in the year in which the property was acquired was passed out of the Senate (29-0).

SB 12 (Bettencourt) relating to the reduction of the amount of a limitation on the total amount of ad valorem taxes that may be imposed by a school district on the residence homestead was passed out of the Senate (29-0).

SJR 2 (Bettencourt) proposing a constitutional amendment authorizing the legislature to provide for the reduction of the amount of a limitation on the total amount of ad valorem taxes that may be imposed was passed out of the Senate (29-0)

SB 13 (Huffman) relating to dates of certain elections to be held in 2022 was passed out of the Senate (28-1).

Sen. Hughes also moved to suspend the tag rule on SB 3 (Hughes) allowing the bill to be heard in Senate State Affairs tomorrow, August 10th, at 10:00 a.m.
