The Senate gaveled in earlier today at 3:00 PM and suspended rules to allow the committees on Education, Finance, and State Affairs to meet and take up SB 1, SB 2, SB 3, and SB 4.

The Senate recessed pending the committee meetings with the intention to gavel back in to take up all four of the bills in the Senate chamber this evening.

The Senate has now reconvened and has stated its intention to take up all four bills on the chamber floor this evening.

The House reconvenes at 12:00 PM Friday, November 10th.

Bills on the Move

HB 1 (Buckley) Relating to primary and secondary education, including the certification, compensation, and health coverage of certain public school employees, the public school finance system, special education in public schools, the establishment of an education savings account program, measures to support the education of public school students that include certain educational grant programs, reading instruction, and early childhood education, the provision of virtual education, and public school accountability.

HJR 1 (K. King) Proposing a constitutional amendment creating the state school safety fund to provide ongoing financial support for projects that ensure the safety of public schools in this state and providing for the transfer of certain general revenues to that fund, the economic stabilization fund, and the state highway fund.

HB 2 (K. King) Relating to measures for ensuring safety and security in public schools, including the establishment of a school safety grant program and a school safety plan implementation grant program, and the allocation of certain constitutional transfers of money to the state school safety fund, the economic stabilization fund, and the state highway fund.
