On 7/26 UT-Austin announced they would not renew their sports media contract, that is set to end 2025, with the Big 12. UT Austin and OU released a joint statement on 7/27 they both have sent in a request to join the Southeastern Conference (SEC) starting on July 1, 2025.

On 7/27 Lt. Governor Dan Patrick announced he was establishing a Senate Select Committee on the Future of College Sports, which would study the economic and athletic impact of UT leaving the Big 12 for the SEC. The committee will meet on Monday, August 2nd at 1:00 PM.

A full list of the committee members can be found below, which includes three members of the Texas House who represent the three Texas schools that would remain in the Big 12 should the University of Texas leave:
