The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has identified 109 independent school districts and charter districts directly affected by Hurricane Harvey that are eligible for special evaluation in this year’s state accountability system under the Hurricane Harvey Accountability Waiver. Under the waiver, school districts and charters receiving a B, C, D, or F rating and meeting at least one of the Hurricane Harvey criteria will be labeled “Not Rated” in the 2018 accountability ratings. School districts and open-enrollment charter schools will be labeled Not Rated if:

  • All campuses within the school district or open-enrollment charter school are eligible for a Hurricane Harvey Provision; or
  • If 10 percent or more of the school district or open-enrollment charter school’s students were enrolled in a campus eligible for a Hurricane Harvey Provision.

Individual campuses may also be eligible for special evaluation under the Hurricane Harvey Provisions. For a full listing of the Hurricane Harvey Provisions, please see Chapter 10 of the TEA 2018 Accountability Manual here. For more information and a listing of all eligible districts, please see the TEA press release here.
