Republican gubernatorial candidate Greg Abbott leads his Democratic opponent, Wendy Davis, 49 percent to 40 percent, according to the latest Texas Lyceum poll, released Wednesday, October 1.
Specifically in the Governor’s race:
- Among men: Greg Abbott 52 – Wendy Davis 35
- Among women: Abbott 46 – Davis 44
- Among Anglos: Abbott 62 – Davis 27
- Among Blacks/African-Americans: Davis 83 – Abbott 3
- Among Hispanics/Latinos: Davis 62 – Abbott 26
- Among independents: Abbott 38- Davis 32
In the lieutenant governor's race, state Sen. Dan Patrick, R-Houston, was ahead of state Sen. Leticia Van de Putte, D-San Antonio, by 14 percentage points, 47 percent to 33 percent.
Specifically in the lieutenant governor's race:
- Among men: Dan Patrick 49 – Leticia Van de Putte 30
- Among women: Patrick 45 – Van de Putte 35
- Among Anglos: Patrick 59 – Van de Putte 22
- Among Blacks/African-Americans: Van de Putte 68 – Patrick 4
- Among Hispanics/Latinos: Van de Putte 55 – Patrick 31
- Among independents: Patrick 26 – Van de Putte 24
The poll also found that if “the transportation ballot initiative, which, if passed, will spend $1.4 billion from the state’s Rainy Day Fund to pay for transportation infrastructure projects, is supported by an overwhelming 74 percent of likely voters.”
Unchanged from this time last year is Gov. Rick Perry's approval rating which stayed steady at 57 percent among registered voters.
The poll, which carries a margin of error of +/- 3.8 percent for the likely voter subsample, was conducted September 11-25.
Additionally, the Texas Lyceum poll numbers on state issues were released Tuesday.
