K-12 Dive recently spotlighted four professional development trends to watch including: PL in Pajamas, bite-sized and personalized, shifts in focus, and breaking down the silos.

Arlington ISD’s efforts to redesign professional learning were intended to take the stress out of getting dressed by offering “PL in Pajamas.” Director of Curriculum and Instruction Connie Wallace understood that with the many demands on their time this year, teachers could no longer be expected to devote hours—much less a whole day—to professional learning. However, teachers need support now more than ever as they are challenged to use new instructional resources and engage with students in new ways. Short sessions that give teachers the choices and flexibility are more motivating and provide the support teachers need in a way that’s accessible despite heavy workloads.
