Students statewide took the re-designed STAAR assessment this month. At the April State Board of Education meeting, Commissioner Mike Morath responded to a question about elementary students’ readiness for online testing with the reminder that keyboarding is part of the TEKS (Technology Applications, starting in grade 1). With STAAR now including open-ended writing prompts starting at grade 3, keyboarding fluency will certainly impact STAAR performance.
