Dr. Keven Ellis presided for the first time as Chair over the State Board of Education (SBOE) as they met for their quarterly meeting and took up a full agenda. One item on the agenda was an African American Studies course which has nearly 60 individuals spoke in support of the course. If given final approval in April, it could be offered in schools as soon as next fall. “I would definitely say that is the intent of the State Board of Education,” said Chair Keven Ellis. “I’ve understood that this course will be approved if it stays on track for the April 2020 meeting.” The SBOE also took up the report from Commissioner Mike Morath regarding instructional materials offered for adoption under Proclamation 2020.
