During the SBOE Committee on School Initiatives’ Thursday meeting, they will discuss SBEC proposed rules concerning educator preparation programs. It will be discussed during item 10 and item 11.
Item 10: Review of Adoption of Proposed Revisions to 19 TAC Chapter 230, Professional Educator Preparation and Certification, Subchapter A, General Provisions, Subchapter C, Assessment of Educators, Subchapter D, Types and Classes of Certificates Issued, and Subchapter G, Certificate Issuance Procedures
Staff noted that robust discussion may occur on this item; these actions will add the items that were earlier discussed to testing. There will be a new enhanced residency program. Additionally, there will be technical edits and an update for the residency requirements. This is an action item and will be brought back up during the Friday meeting for a formal decision.
Item 11: Review of Adoption of Proposed Repeal of and New 19 TAC Chapter 228, Requirements for Educator Preparation Programs
Staff noted this is anticipated to have a lot of conversation as this chapter allows for improved readability implement legislation, and includes technical updates to remove outdated, provisions, specific to the residency certificate. This is a discussion-only item.
