On March 19 the Texas Education Agency (TEA) will hold a meeting designed to introduce Proclamation 2016 to publishers and other content providers interested in participating in the adoption. The purpose of this meeting is to give potential participants an opportunity to provide input regarding the proclamation and the instructional materials review and adoption process. Proclamation 2016 includes instructional materials for languages other than English (LOTE). Funding for materials included in both Proclamation 2015 (K-12 social studies and high school math courses) and Proclamation 2016 will be considered by the 84th Texas Legislature when it meets in 2015.

TEA staff will present the proclamation, including its timeline, and discuss the requirements for submitting materials for adoption. TEA staff will also provide an overview of a draft of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skill (TEKS) that are scheduled to be included in the proclamation. Because this meeting is intended to solicit input from publishers and other content providers prior to final approval of the proclamation, TEA is inviting active participation. This will be the first meeting hosted by the Instructional Materials & Educational Technology Division since the February 28 retirement of division director John Lopez.

The State Board of Education is scheduled to give final approval of the new TEKS for Languages Other Than English (LOTE) and approve and issue Proclamation 2016 when it meets on April 8-11 in Austin.
